In the centre of the region's highlights, L'Autre Vie makes the perfect base to explore the best that the area has to offer. We're in the heart of Bordeaux wine country, with the smooth merlots of Saint Emilion a short drive north, the bold cabernets of Graves just to the south, and plenty of other great boutique wineries nearby. Gorgeous medieval villages, historic sites, authentic farmers markets and fantastic restaurants are also a major draw card for the area all around us, and we love to recommend our favourites!
If you fly or arrive by train, the best way to get around and to make the most of the area is to pick-up a hire car when you arrive. Believe it or not, it's also usually the best way to access and experience vineyard visits. In Bordeaux you'll find more of a focus on the château history and the wine making process than on a significant volume of wine tasting - visits usually last 1 hour and include 2-3 small samples, so you can still enjoy most of the experience within your limits. The bonus is that if you follow our tips on places to visit and drive yourself, you can save the expensive fees of private tours and spend that money on a special bottle of wine instead. Equally, if you want to avoid driving, we can help to create an itinerary with transport options for you.
Major airlines and low-cost carriers fly into Bordeaux Merignac and Bergerac airports, both within easy reach. At a stretch, Toulouse airport is another option under 2 hours away. The TGV train network is another fantastic way to get to the Bordeaux area from all over France as well as parts of Spain. For schedules and prices have a look at http://en.voyages-sncf.com/en/en/
